\u201cBingata\u201d is a traditional japanese dyeing technique from the island Okinawa. The origins go back to the 14th<\/sup> century, when the Okinawa natives combined the skills of Indian prints, Javanese batik, Chinese fabrics and japanese \u201cKyo Yuzen\u201d.\u00a0The printing technique was used for the clothing of loyal or samurai families and was protected by the \u201cRyukyu\u201d rule.\u00a0In the late 19th<\/sup> century, when the \u201cRyukyu\u201d rule came to an end, \u201cBingata\u201d was rejected. During World War 2, most of the printing stencils and tools were destroyed.\u00a0In 1984 \u201cBingata\u201d experienced a new lease of life and was recognized as a traditional craft.\u00a0Nowadays, \u201cBingata\u201d is not only reserved for wealthy families, but can also be found in everyday items such as bags, umbrellas and mats.
